The External Business Plan

An External Business Plan is typically an information and communication document — that is directed to an important external audience.  Its prime purpose is persuasion.

Typically this could be persuasion to lend or invest money.

In some situations however, a businesses or organizations may need to communicate their intentions to a parent company or external licensing authority. In this situation, an External Business Plan is sometimes used to achieve credibility or justify existence or justify funding.

A cause of confusion

If you search the Internet, visit a book store, or purchase business planning software, guess what? There is a 95% chance that the focus of the article, book or software will be on External Business Planning.

Now that may be fine if it's an external style business plan you exclusively need. However if it's about getting a business or organisation organised for operational success, you may be in for confusion, frustration and disappointment.
